SEO: Flir.com replaced by teledynevisionsolutions.com in best-ranking machine vision camera brands in Google

SERP report machine vision camera

Vision Markets’ Q4/2024 Search Engine Ranking Position report (SERP) shows dramatic changes in the best-ranking domains for the “machine vision camera” keyword. Long-time #1 Flir.com drops off the top 10 while Teledyne ranks a new domain in the top 10. Cognex shooting star in Q4.

The Search Engine Ranking Position (SERP) of a domain for a given keyword is a good indicator of the strength of a brand as it measures its relevance and authority in its market segment. This is why we at Vision Markets constantly monitor the performance of our clients’ website to improve their performance.

The fall of flir.com, the rise of teledynevisionsolutions.com

The sensation of our Q4/2024 SERP update for machine vision cameras is the spectacular drop of flir.com. The domain has been constantly dominating the chart for years but suddenly dropped off the top 10.

This might be part of a bigger masterplan of parent company Teledyne, though. A new domain appeared on rank #7 in November and December: teledynevisionsolutions.com. Teledyne has been consolidating their vision business following a series of acquisitions for years now, but this new domain is a bit of a surprise as it seemed Teledyne Imaging was to be the new umbrella brand. Teledyneimaging.com still exists and points to a different website from teledynevisionsolutions.com. This is a little bit confusing but may still be work in progress.

We will monitor if the newcomer teledynevisionsolutions.com establishes as Flir’s successor at the top of our SERP chart. Be sure to subscribe to our newsletter to keep regular updates per email!

Shooting star Cognex

Another spectacular change in Q4/2024 is the performance of cognex.com. Although Cognex is a major player in the machine vision camera market, its website has struggled to even be featured in the top 10, let alone at the top of the chart. Cognex.com was featured in the top 10 rankings only three times on rank #9 from January to September. But in Q4/2024, the domain jumped up to rank #1 on the machine vision camera keyword. Will it succeed in maintaining this leadership in months to come as steadily as flir.com did? This will be another captivating trend to follow.

After dropping in Q3, Edmund Optics has caught up again in Q4 and is now back at the top of the chart.

Exotic newcomers

Two newcomers entered the top 10 in Q4. Golf-simulators.com is the most surprising one as it is not really related to the industrial inspection business and will likely not be able to maintain at such a high level. Wenglor.com is much more relevant and enters the chart at a respectable rank #6 in December. Wenglor’s website has performed very well for the machine vision light keyword recently so it will be interesting to monitor if they can reproduce this performance for cameras as well.

SEO update: The top 10 machine vision camera brands in Q3/2024

SERP report machine vision camera

In Q3/2024, our Search Engine Ranking Position report (SERP) shows continued domination by flir.com. Lucid and Zebra perform very well, while Allied Vision and Edmund Optics lose ground.

Vision Market’s SERP reports measure the performance of our clients’ domains for their target keywords compared to their competitors. Every quarter, we publish the top 10 ranking domains for key machine vision product categories. The Q3/2024 update shows movement in the top 5 with a continued volatility at the bottom of the chart.

Lucid Vision Labs and Zebra on the rise

The search results for machine vision cameras remain dominated by flir.com, that has been #1 ever since we started publishing this data. In Q3/2024, we see a continued trend for Teledyne Flir to rank not just one but two pages in the top 10, with the second page ranking even higher than in previous months. Flir now ranks two pages in the top 3, which is an amazing performance.

ThinkLucid.com, Lucid Vision Labs’ website, confirmed the progression initiated in June , ranking in the top 3 every months in Q3/2024. Allied Vision is the main victim of Flir’s and Lucid’s performance and continues to lose ground. The German camera manufacturer is now struggling with Zebra.com, a domain that has also strongly progressed in the last 12 months and is now steadily in the top 5.

Edmund Optics also drops significantly and leaves the top 5 it had been constantly part of for months.

Failed comeback for Basler

In our last report, we noted that Baslerweb.com appeared on rank 5 in June. After the company relaunched their website, we were curious if this was the beginning of a comeback, as we had been missing this major player in our machine vision camera SERP reports for months.

It turns out this was just a one-time spike. Basler has not stabilized its position in the top 10 in Q3/2024, appearing only once on rank 8 in September. It is surprising how poorly the company performs on its core business keyword.

Overall, the lower end of our chart remains very unstable. The surprise of this quarter is ti.com, a new entrant in this report. Is it a one-time spike or a long-term trend? Stay tuned and subscribe to our newsletter to receive our report updates per email!

SEO update: The top 10 machine vision camera brands in Q2/2024

SERP report machine vision camera

The Q2/2024 update of our Search Engine Ranking Position report (SERP) shows continued domination by flir.com. Newcomer OpenMV loses ground while Balser finally comes back to the top 5.

Vision Market’s SERP report is a good indicator of the leading brands for key product categories in the machine vision industry. In Q1/2024, we had noted that flir.com, the long-time #1, strengthened its position even further by ranking two different pages of its website in the top 10 search results. This trend continued in Q2/2024 with the second page ranking moving up the chart. This came at the cost of Allied Vision, that had been steady on ranks 2 or 3 for months and now dropped down to 4 and 5.

OpenMV and Keyence weakening

Q1/2024 had also been marked by the spectacular entry of OpenMV.io at very high rankings. This domain could not maintain this performance in Q2, and dropped down to rank 10, even leaving the top 10 in June. Keyence is also weak this quarter, dropping off the top 10 in April and May and ranking 10 in June.

The comeback of Basler?

One surprise is the comeback of amazon.com, a domain we had not expected in top rankings for such a niche, B2B keyword as “machine vision camera”. After ranking very high in Q3 and Q4/2023, amazon.com had left the top 10 but it is back in the lower end of the chart since March 2024.

The most interesting comeback, however, is that of Basler. We had been missing this key player from our top 10 report for a year, but it is now back in June, rushing to rank #5. This is probably due to the recovery of the domain after Basler’s recent website relaunch. It will be interesting how it performs in the future against key competitors like Flir, Lucid Vision Labs or Allied Vision.

SEO update: The top 10 machine vision camera brands in Q1/2024

SERP report machine vision camera

Vision Markets’ SERP report sees Flir consolidate its leadership and confirms the rise of a new top domain for the “machine vision camera” keyword.

Search Engine Ranking Position (SERP), the ranking of domains in Google organic searches, is a good indicator of the strength of a brand for a given keyword. At Vision Markets, we monitor the ranking of our clients and their competitors for their target keywords, which may be more specific than “machine vision camera”. This general keyword, however, gives an indication of how machine vision camera brands perform on search engines.

Newcomer OpenMV at the top of the chart

In December 2024, we had seen a new domain appear in the top 10 in December: openmv.io, ranking #5 from scratch. This was not an accident, as our Q1/2024 report shows: OpenMV has been steadily ranking in the top 5, even ranking #3 in January.

Apart from this major change, the top of the chart remains dominated by Flir, Allied Vision, and Edmund Optics. Flir.com has even strengthened its position sinc Q3/2023, ranking two pages in the top 10 every month.

OpenMV’s rise happens mainly at the cost of Lucid Vision Labs, that is on a downward trend and achieves its lowest ranking in March since July 2023.

Cognex had entered the top 10 in December 2023 but could not really confirm the trend, leaving the chart again in February 2024.

After losing ground in last quarter, Zebra and Keyence are catching up again in Q1. Amazon.com was a surprise at the top of the chart when we started publishing our quarterly reports but disappeared in the last couple of months. The online platform is back in March on rank 10 and it will be interesting to see next quarter if it is the beginning of a comeback. SEO update: The top 10 machine vision camera brands in Q4/2023

The Q4/2024 update of Vision Markets’ SERP report shows a stable domination of the top players but also a few surprises in December. Contact us if you want custom reports on your performance and that of your competitors!

While there are some fluctuations from month to month, the search engine rankings for the keyword “machine vision camera” remains clearly dominated by the same top players: Teledyne Flir, Allied Vision, Edmund Optics and Omron. Teledyne Flir even strengthened its position in Q4/2023 by ranking two different pages in the top 10 in November and December.

Lucid Vision Labs still performs very well and Keyence and Zebra remain solid players in the second half of the top 10.

What’s new in Q4/2023?

Phantom had been a bit of a surprise in this top 10 in Q3. Unfortunately, the company left the top chart in Q4, along with Teledyne Dalsa and Baumer.

On the other hand, Get Cameras (Industrial-cameras.com), a European reseller of Daheng Imaging, entered the top 10 and even reached rank 6 in November – but left again in December. It will be interesting to monitor if this was just a flash in the pan or the beginning of a long-term trend. Another newcomer is OpenMV, a young embedded vision company from Georgia (USA) that made it to rank 5 in December. This is a quite impressive result but needs to be confirmed as a trend in months to come.

We had been missing two major camera vendors in our last report: Cognex and Basler. Cognex appeared in our top 10 for the first time in December, and we’ll be curious to see if they can sustain this performance in Q1/2024. Basler still ranks further down in search results for the “machine vision camera” keyword. This might be related to the recent relaunch of their website, or with a strategy to focus on more specific, so-called long-tail keywords (e.g. “machine vision camera with IMX174 sensor”)

Amazon.com, one of the surprises of our last report, left the chart in December but this might be just a one-time drop. We’ll see if they celebrate a come-back in Q1/2024.

SEO: What are the top-ranking machine vision camera brands?

At Vision Markets, we provide our clients with key market insights for the sustainable success of their businesses. Through our Marketing Consulting services, we enhance the brand awareness of our clients in their respective target segments. One key KPI of the strength of a brand is the ranking of its website in organic search results on Google, the so-called SERP (Search Engine Ranking Position).

What is SERP?

SERP is the rank a specific web page achieves in organic search results in a search engine like Google for a given keyword. Organic means the genuine search results, excluding paid ads displayed on top of the result page. For example, if you are a machine vision camera vendor, does your website appear on top of the Google results for the keyword “machine vision camera”? There are as many SERPs as there are keywords. For example, you may have a great ranking for “machine vision camera” but a poor one for “image-processing software”. Your goal should be to have a good SERP for the keywords your target clients are searching for. If you are highly specialized, these might be more specific, so-called long-tail keywords, for example: “Lightweight GigE Vision cameras for robot applications”.

A high ranking for a given keyword is a good indicator of the strength of a brand in a given market segment. We monitor trends in key segments of the vision market and the results are sometimes surprising, as the below example of the keyword “machine vision camera” shows.

The top 10 brands for machine vision cameras

The chart above shows the domains ranking in the top 10 positions in the search results for the keyword “machine vision camera” in Q3/2023. The results might be surprising as some big names are missing (e.g., Cognex, Basler, Baumer) while smaller companies succeed in ranking on the top of the result page (e.g., Lucid Vision Labs, Phantom). Interestingly, not all top-ranking companies are camera manufacturers. Distributors like Amazon.com, Edmundoptics.com, or the portal Directindustry.com appear among the top 10 results.

There seems to be a bonus for larger organizations such as Teledyne Flir, Edmund Optics, Omron, Keyence, or Zebra. Typically, this is not only due to the quality of their landing pages for the “machine vision camera” keyword but also supported by their Domain Authority. Domain Authority (DA) is an SEO KPI that expresses the trustworthiness of a specific root domain (e.g., flir.com). Pages with a high domain authority are more likely to rank higher in search results. The domain authority is mainly driven by the number of third-party websites that link to your domain (aka backlinks), as well as their own authority, so larger organizations that have been in the market for a long time usually have higher domain authorities than start-ups.

It is not just about domain authority, though. Smaller organizations like Allied Vision or Lucid Vision Labs succeed in achieving high rankings for machine vision cameras with well-optimized landing pages and website setups.

Why do you get different search engine results in your web browser?

The chart above may not reflect your own experience. This is because many factors influence your personalized search engine results and these may vary depending on your location, your language settings, and primarily your individual browsing behavior which is tracked by Google, etc. The monitoring above is created by a generic search simulated on the English version of Google in the United States. We also track the SERP of various keywords such as “high-speed camera”, “line-scan camera”, frame grabber”, “fixed focal lens”, “industrial lens”, “embedded vision”, “industrial laser”, etc. in different languages and regions, some of them since back to 2018.

If you want to improve the SERP of your own website, you should start by defining which keyword(s) you want to focus on, and then optimize your website accordingly, for example with a dedicated landing page offering highly relevant content. Technical aspects such as loading time or the mobile experience can support or damage your ranking further. For sustainable success, it is a good idea to work on improving your domain authority e.g., by acquiring backlinks through creating authoritative content.
