SEO update: The top 10 frame grabber brands in Q4/2023

The Q4/2023 update of our Search Engine Ranking Position Report for CoaXPress frame grabbers shows a relatively stable ranking of all top players, but also one drop-off and one interesting newcomer.

At Vision Markets, we monitor the performance of our clients in organic searches for their target keywords and compare them with their competitors. The search engine ranking position (SERP) is a good indicator of the strength of a brand in a specific market segment.

For frame grabbers, we found that the keyword “frame grabber” alone is not specific enough for relevant results in the camera interface cards market, because it this phrase is also used to refer to other products such as software tools or mobile apps capturing single frames in a video stream.

Therefore, in this report, we selected the keyword “CoaXPress frame grabber” to identify top frame grabber brands but the results may be different with other interfaces.

The chart above shows the organic search results for the keyword “CoaXPress frame grabber” in Google.com in the US. Top 5 players remain stable

In Q4/2023, the five top-ranking domains remain the same as in the previous quarter with slight fluctuations: Euresys is a steady #1 and even succeeded to rank two pages on top of the chart in November. Kaya Instruments loses a bit of ground vs. Bitflow, Active Silicon, and Zebra in Q4, but these small fluctuations should probably not be overinterpreted. In December, Kaya even ranked two pages in the top 10 on ranks 5 and 7.

Gidel replaces Teledyne Dalsa

In the second half of the chart, the players remain more or less the same, with distributors like Graftek, RMA Electronics or Pyramid Imaging. Adimec entered the top 10 in October, but did not confirm this performance in November and December.

One notable trend is the replacement of Teledyne Dalsa with newcomer Gidel. Dalsa left the chart in November while Gidel entered at rank 10, but unlike Adimec, the Israeli frame grabber specialist was able to confirm in December, gaining one step at rank 9.

Will the trend carry on in 2024?

Will Gidel be able to maintain or even improve its position in the top 10? Will Teledyne Dalsa celebrate a come-back? Stay tuned and register to our newsletter for our quarterly updates of this and other SEO reports!

SEO update: The top 10 machine vision software brands in Q4/2023

In Q4/2023, the five top-ranking domains for machine vision software remain pretty stable, while we see much more volatility in the lower end of the chart. One top player disappears from the top 10 altogether.

The search engine ranking position (SERP) is a good indicator of the strength of a brand for a specific keyword. Our SERP report for the search “machine vision software” shows significant changes in Q4/2023 vs. Q3/2023.

In Q3, we had found the rankings less volatile for machine vision software than for other keywords. In the light of the Q4 results, we must revise that judgement.

Top-ranking machine vision software brands in google

Disclaimer:

The chart above shows the organic search results for the keyword “machine vision software” in Google.com in the US. They may not reflect results in other countries or Google’s personalized search results based on individual user behavior. This reports only gives a general indication of the search engine power of websites and brands for this specific keyword.

Stability in the top 5,… but one big drop-off

The top 5 domains remain relatively stable between Q3 and Q4/2023, with viso.ai, Cognex, MVTec, get-cameras.com and adaptive-vision.com dominating the game.

One notable change, however, is that adaptive-vision.com not only dropped off the top 5 in December, it disappeared from the top 10 altogether. This is probably due to the integration of Adaptive Vision into the Zebra group, which also impacts the website. Most likely, adaptive-vision.com will end up simply redirecting to zebra.com, which means it will no longer have its own content for the “machine vision software” or any other keyword. Zebra.com is not yet in the chart, though. In the months to come, it will be interesting to see if zebra.com catches up on the “machine vision software” keyword and how long it takes for that domain to reach the top 10 or even the top 5.

High volatility in the lower rankings

In the second half of the chart, we see much more variations. NI came in at the end of Q3 but leaves the top 10 again in December. Teledyne Dalsa follows a downward trend, while Euresys seems to be gaining ground in Q4/2023. RoboRealm and Mech-Mind popped up in October and November but still struggle to establish a solid presence in the top 10.

SEO update: The top 10 machine vision light brands in Q4/2023

Vision Market’s Search Engine Ranking Position report for machine vision light shows a relative stability among the top players between Q3 and Q4/2023.

The variations observed from month to month have little significance and the overall trends on six months is a relative stability.

Disclaimer:

The chart above shows the organic search results for the keyword “machine vision light” in Google.com in the US. They may not reflect results in other countries or Google’s personalized search results based on individual user behavior. This reports only gives a general indication of the search engine power of websites and brands for this specific keyword.

No more surprises in Q4

The two main surprises of Q3/2024 have disappeared in the Q4: Edmund Optics no longer ranks two domains in the top 10 (edmundoptics.com and edmundoptics.in). Instead, edmundoptics.com has gained in popularity and now ranks two different pages in the top 10 in November and December. This is exactly the pattern we had observed in the “machine vision camera” report. The surprisingly good results of Vital Vision in Q3/2023 were not confirmed in Q4.

The disappointing results of CCS is confirmed in Q4/2024: the domain ccs-grp.com doesn’t make it into the top 10 at all.

At the top of the chart, Smart Vision Lights and Cognex alternate on ranks 1 and 2, while Advanced Illumination and Machine Vision Direct compete on ranks 3 and 4. NI has slightly gained ground at the cost of Opto-Engineering.

What will be the trend in 2024?

It will be interesting to monitor if this stable trend remains in 2024 or if new entrants can challenge the domination of the top players. Be sure to subscribe to our marketing newsletter for regular updates per e-mail!

SEO update: The top 10 machine vision lens brands in Q4/2023

SERP Search engine ranking position machine vision lenses

At Vision Markets, we constantly monitor the search-engine ranking positions (SERP) of our clients for their target keywords. This gives us insights on the top-performing brands in each product category of the industry. For the keyword “machine vision lens”, our Q4/2023 report shows the surge of one specific brand that was not even in the top 10 back in August 2023.

Like for the “machine vision camera” keyword, the ranking positions showed some fluctuation in Q4/2024 but the top players remained stable, with Edmund Optics, Thorlabs and Tamron leading the charts.

Strong position of Edmund Optics

In Q3, we had been surprised to see Edmund Optics ranking with both their corporate domain Edmundoptics.com and their Indian domain Edmundoptics.in. This is no longer the case in Q4, the corporate .com domain is still #1, and also ranks #3 and #4 with other landing pages. Tamron shows a good progression in Q4, overtaking Opto Engineering.

The surge of Kowa

The more interesting trend happens in the second half of the chart: Kowa-lenses.com shows a strong and steady growth from month to month. The domain had only appeared on rank 10 for the first time in September 2023 and ends the year on rank 6. This is an impressive performance, and it will be interesting to monitor if the Japanese brand can continue on this trend and enter the top 5.

Interestingly, the kowa-lenses.com domain is not the global corporate website of Kowa. Kowa-lenses.com is the website of Kowa’s European sales organization for industrial and scientific optics. We had already noted a similar pattern with Tamron.vision in Q3/2023. This is probably because these websites are more specialized in the machine vision segment than their global parent companies’ that cover other business areas such as consumer lenses. As a result, their performance for machine vision keywords is better, even outside of their target market (our test simulates a search on google.com from a US location).

SEO update: The top 10 machine vision camera brands in Q4/2023

The Q4/2024 update of Vision Markets’ SERP report shows a stable domination of the top players but also a few surprises in December. Contact us if you want custom reports on your performance and that of your competitors!

While there are some fluctuations from month to month, the search engine rankings for the keyword “machine vision camera” remains clearly dominated by the same top players: Teledyne Flir, Allied Vision, Edmund Optics and Omron. Teledyne Flir even strengthened its position in Q4/2023 by ranking two different pages in the top 10 in November and December.

Lucid Vision Labs still performs very well and Keyence and Zebra remain solid players in the second half of the top 10.

What’s new in Q4/2023?

Phantom had been a bit of a surprise in this top 10 in Q3. Unfortunately, the company left the top chart in Q4, along with Teledyne Dalsa and Baumer.

On the other hand, Get Cameras (Industrial-cameras.com), a European reseller of Daheng Imaging, entered the top 10 and even reached rank 6 in November – but left again in December. It will be interesting to monitor if this was just a flash in the pan or the beginning of a long-term trend. Another newcomer is OpenMV, a young embedded vision company from Georgia (USA) that made it to rank 5 in December. This is a quite impressive result but needs to be confirmed as a trend in months to come.

We had been missing two major camera vendors in our last report: Cognex and Basler. Cognex appeared in our top 10 for the first time in December, and we’ll be curious to see if they can sustain this performance in Q1/2024. Basler still ranks further down in search results for the “machine vision camera” keyword. This might be related to the recent relaunch of their website, or with a strategy to focus on more specific, so-called long-tail keywords (e.g. “machine vision camera with IMX174 sensor”)

Amazon.com, one of the surprises of our last report, left the chart in December but this might be just a one-time drop. We’ll see if they celebrate a come-back in Q1/2024.

SEO: What are the top-ranking machine vision software brands?

Top ranking machine vision software brands in Google

The Search Engine Ranking Position (SERP) is a good indicator of the strength of a brand on a specific market segment. This is why at Vision Markets, we monitor the performance of our clients and their competitors on Google Search for their target keywords.

The chart below shows the top 10 domains for machine vision software as they appear on a standard Google.com search performed in the United States in Q3/2023.

These results may differ from your own experience because of Google’s localization and personalization based on your individual user profile. These are generic results ignoring any user personalization. However, they are a relevant indicator for those brands with the highest reputation in the machine vision software segment.

Lower volatility than in other segments

The expected big names in the industrial field are present, such as Cognex, MVTec, Zebra/Adaptive Vision, NI, Stemmer Imaging, etc. Interestingly, we don’t see as much fluctuation from one month to the other compared to other segments like machine vision cameras or lenses. The top 10 players have a relatively stable performance. Mech-Mind, Stemmer-Imaging and NI are exceptions at the bottom of the ranking, although Stemmer-Imaging was not far off being in the top 10 before entering in August. NI, on the other hand, ranks unexpectedly low, especially considering that the test setup simulates a US-user.

One spectacular result is the performance of Viso.ai, a relatively young company that is leading the charts on the “machine vision software” keyword, ahead of well established brands.

Not only machine vision software vendors are ranked in this top 10. GeT Cameras, a Netherlands-based distributor of Daheng Imaging cameras, performs very well on the software keyword although they were not in the Top 10 on the machine vision camera keyword. Teledyne Dalsa, another camera vendor, also ranks steadily in the middle field of the SERP results.

SEO: What are the top-ranking machine vision lens brands?

SERP Search engine ranking position machine vision lenses

One key KPI of the strength of a brand is the ranking of its website in organic search results on Google, the so-called SERP (Search Engine Ranking Position). At Vision Markets, we provide our clients with key market insights for the sustainable success of their businesses. We have been tracking many keywords for years now as part of our on-going monitoring of the vision market.

The chart below shows the top 10 top Search Engine Ranking Positions (SERP) for as generic search for the keyword “machine vision lens” simulated on the US version of Google.com. These results may not reflect your own experience. This is because many factors influence your personalized search engine results. These may vary depending on your location, your language settings, and primarily your individual browsing behavior which is tracked by Google, etc. However, this generic result is a good indicator of the strength of a brand for a given keyword.

The top 10 brands for machine vision lenses

Not surprisingly, the top players (Edmund Optics, Tamron, Fujifilm, Kowa,…) appear in the top 10 results. However, looking at the results in detail shows some interesting insights. For example, Edmund Optics’ Indian website ranked very high in July and August 2023 along with edmundoptics.com before falling out in September. Thorlabs shows a very good performance and so does Opto-Engineering. On the other hand, the ranking of Kowa does not reflect the brand’s position in the machine vision market.

Global domain vs. dedicated domain

Large international corporations such as the Japanese manufacturers Tamron, Fujifilm, and Kowa, follow different strategies with their website domains: While Fujifilm consistently uses the main corporate domain Fujifilm.com, Tamron and Kowa have dedicated websites and domains for the machine vision business with tamron.vision and kowa-lenses.com respectively.

Having such a dedicated domain has pros and cons. You lose the power of a well-established domain with a high domain authority, which can be a drawback for your search engine optimization. Different regional websites addressing the same market (e.g. North America, EMEA, APAC) may end up competing on the same keywords, as the example of Edmund Optics show.

On the other hand, your content is much more focused on a specific target audience and their keywords, which is beneficial both for the user experience and the relevance of your pages. In the case of lenses, having different websites for consumer and professional users can make a lot of sense. Comparing Tamron and Kowa shows there is no secret formula, though: tamron.vision, which is a dedicated machine vision website from Tamron Europe, performs very well, while kowa-lenses.com barely appears in the top 10.

Also note that one domain can be featured several times in the top 10 results with several subpages. This is the case for Fujifilm in September.

SEO: What are the top-ranking machine vision camera brands?

At Vision Markets, we provide our clients with key market insights for the sustainable success of their businesses. Through our Marketing Consulting services, we enhance the brand awareness of our clients in their respective target segments. One key KPI of the strength of a brand is the ranking of its website in organic search results on Google, the so-called SERP (Search Engine Ranking Position).

What is SERP?

SERP is the rank a specific web page achieves in organic search results in a search engine like Google for a given keyword. Organic means the genuine search results, excluding paid ads displayed on top of the result page. For example, if you are a machine vision camera vendor, does your website appear on top of the Google results for the keyword “machine vision camera”? There are as many SERPs as there are keywords. For example, you may have a great ranking for “machine vision camera” but a poor one for “image-processing software”. Your goal should be to have a good SERP for the keywords your target clients are searching for. If you are highly specialized, these might be more specific, so-called long-tail keywords, for example: “Lightweight GigE Vision cameras for robot applications”.

A high ranking for a given keyword is a good indicator of the strength of a brand in a given market segment. We monitor trends in key segments of the vision market and the results are sometimes surprising, as the below example of the keyword “machine vision camera” shows.

The top 10 brands for machine vision cameras

The chart above shows the domains ranking in the top 10 positions in the search results for the keyword “machine vision camera” in Q3/2023. The results might be surprising as some big names are missing (e.g., Cognex, Basler, Baumer) while smaller companies succeed in ranking on the top of the result page (e.g., Lucid Vision Labs, Phantom). Interestingly, not all top-ranking companies are camera manufacturers. Distributors like Amazon.com, Edmundoptics.com, or the portal Directindustry.com appear among the top 10 results.

There seems to be a bonus for larger organizations such as Teledyne Flir, Edmund Optics, Omron, Keyence, or Zebra. Typically, this is not only due to the quality of their landing pages for the “machine vision camera” keyword but also supported by their Domain Authority. Domain Authority (DA) is an SEO KPI that expresses the trustworthiness of a specific root domain (e.g., flir.com). Pages with a high domain authority are more likely to rank higher in search results. The domain authority is mainly driven by the number of third-party websites that link to your domain (aka backlinks), as well as their own authority, so larger organizations that have been in the market for a long time usually have higher domain authorities than start-ups.

It is not just about domain authority, though. Smaller organizations like Allied Vision or Lucid Vision Labs succeed in achieving high rankings for machine vision cameras with well-optimized landing pages and website setups.

Why do you get different search engine results in your web browser?

The chart above may not reflect your own experience. This is because many factors influence your personalized search engine results and these may vary depending on your location, your language settings, and primarily your individual browsing behavior which is tracked by Google, etc. The monitoring above is created by a generic search simulated on the English version of Google in the United States. We also track the SERP of various keywords such as “high-speed camera”, “line-scan camera”, frame grabber”, “fixed focal lens”, “industrial lens”, “embedded vision”, “industrial laser”, etc. in different languages and regions, some of them since back to 2018.

If you want to improve the SERP of your own website, you should start by defining which keyword(s) you want to focus on, and then optimize your website accordingly, for example with a dedicated landing page offering highly relevant content. Technical aspects such as loading time or the mobile experience can support or damage your ranking further. For sustainable success, it is a good idea to work on improving your domain authority e.g., by acquiring backlinks through creating authoritative content.
